HK Contractors Wins Best Overall Large Construction Project

HK Contractors won Best Overall Large Highway Construction Project for their Grand Loop Road, Norris to Golden Gate, Phase 1 Project from the Western Federal Lands Highway Division. This large-scale project included:

  • 41 acres of Clearing and Grubbing
  • 26,000 feet of soil erosion control
  • 139,000 CY of Roadway Excavation consisting of five miles of total roadway reconstruction
  • 2800 feet of pipe culvert
  • 14,000 CY of thermal subexcavations/standard subexcavation – Thermal subexcavations are used to reduce the amount of geo-thermal heat that the volcano produces. Increased the integrity of the roadway
  • 20,600 ton of select borrow placement
  • 33,900 ton of cold recycle asphalt base course
  • 24,200 ton of Asphalt Concrete Pavement
  • 150 span super structure for the replacement of the Gardiner river bridge
  • Multiple stone masonry structures

The project was completed during the 2014-2015 season.
